That tune gets rolled out every year now, much like Lennon, Slade, Wizzard. I'm sick of most of them, but I guess they need to pay the bills.
It's released on the anniversary of McColl's fateful swim too. I don't particularly have a problem with a new voice filling in. The Pogues 10-date UK tour during December will feature various birds filling in the slot.

It's always struck me as weird that it's become such a popular Christmas song, considering the subject matter. After all, it's basically the story of a doomed relationship between a chronic alcoholic and a heroin addict. It's grim as fuck if you read the lyrics.
