WHAT'S UP?
At dinner tonight I was telling my wife Margie about a Chicago Tribune interview with Norman Jewison, director of the movie version of Fiddler on the Roof, and his explanation for choosing Topol over Zero Mostel. He also mentioned that Frank Sinatra sent word he would be very interested in playing Tevye. This seemed so ludicrous that we came up with the cast of the Rat Pack Fiddler:
Tevye: Frank Sinatra
Golde: Judy Garland
Tzeitel: Nancy Sinatra
Hodel: Jill St. John
Chava: Juliet Prowse
Motel: Sammy Davis, Jr.
Perchik: Dean Martin
Fyedka: Peter Lawford
Yente: Shirley MacLaine
Lazar Wolf: Joey Bishop
Rabbi: Bing Crosby
Grandma Tzeitel: Mia Farrow
Constable: Victor Buono
Fruma-Sarah: Tiny Tim
THE CONTEST:
Come up with your own Ludicrous Cast for the movie version of your favorite Broadway or Off-Broadway Musical (from 1901 - 2007). Post it here. You can choose the same musical or cast as someone else, you just can't combine them the same way.
HOW LONG?:
The contest will end at midnight on Saturday, February 3rd.
PRIZE:
I'm reasonably handy with Photoshop (examples here). If your movie cast is the winner, you win a t-shirt (the type I sell for $20 on CafePress.com) upon which I will design either a poster or lobby card for your movie, with your cast and your name up in lights (so to speak) as the movie's producer. I'll also post that design on the web so everyone knows just what a Clever Pants you are.
You need to fill in all major speaking/singing roles. Minor roles and chorus are not necessary.
Good luck to all! Let the contest commence!
Craig

"You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown"
A Merchant/Ivory Production
Charlie Brown--Anthony Hopkins
Lucy Van Pelt--Judi Dench
Linus Van Pelt--Hugh Grant

And Maggie Smith as the disembodied voice of the teacher
If they will only give us the film rights to the "revised" version . . .

Merchant/Ivory would also like to acknowledge Vanessa Redgrave and Denholm Elliot, who are both phenominal thespians, but alas lost out to Ms. Thompson and Sir Anthony, respectively, due to marquee value

Well, since there were only two entries (Margie and I are ineligible), Steve & Julie both win!
