Later, they said that the steel supports melted, vaporized.
Over a month later, there are still fires burning.
And the smell of death lingering in the smoke.
I am awestruck by my new profound lack of surety in the world I thought I knew.
What is there to say about the void created, swelling, expanding, imploding?
There are no words adequate. I have no mouth, yet I must scream.
I have no scream. I can hardly breathe over the stench of death burying itself in my psyche,
Crushed beneath the hooves of Hatred, Ignorance, and Fear, the real Apocalyptic Horsemen.
Who can speak of a skyline that doesn't exist anymore?
And who can sit back and not feel guilt over similar scars in other cities?
A cold, shining fuselage pales in comparison to the weapons at our disposal.
What impact can a soldier with a gun have in comparison to a loaded passenger plane full of innocents?
What impact a plane can have in the face of economic imperialism.
Simple ignorance is not always so simple.
Blame is not always a valid excuse.
Truth is rarely true.
This I have learned, this I have forgotten.
I'd like to say it's been burned into my mind forever, but I know it hasn't.

Anger is a gift.
I must learn to love the fool in me - the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries. It alone protects me against that utterly self-controlled, masterful tyrant whom I also harbor and who would rob me of human aliveness, humility and dignity, were it not for my fool. -- Theodore Isaac Rubin
