Untitled Story

(rough draft of what i think will be a short story. hopefully posting this will get me working on it again)

Jessie knew she should have had management fix the lock. If she?d just quit being lazy and called them when she first had trouble turning the lock, she wouldn?t have a strange old man currently standing in her hallway.
He didn?t look all that strange, really. He was a little short for a guy, a bit overweight. He was balding, had no hair on top of his head, but a little hair on the sides. That hair was a shocking white. That hair was also disheveled. He reminded Jessie of grandfathers she saw in Memorial Park, sitting on a bench while their grandkids chased butterflies. Except for his eyes.
His eyes were a striking pale blue. And a little disturbing.
?What kind of a/c problem?? Jessie asked him again.
?Management told me to go around and look at the filters in all the apartments here in Building C,? he says. ?Something about cleaning all the ducts later on, I believe.?
?I didn?t get a letter or anything about this.?
?Well, I don?t know about that, ma?am. I?m just trying to do what they tell me to do,? he said.
Jessie stared at him, still trying to figure out what was making her nervous. He wore a dark blue worker?s uniform, the kind you?d see a plumber or otherwise in. He looked like a maintenance guy. She was just being weird, Jessie thought.
?Well, uh, okay then. Do whatever you need to,? Jessie said.
?Thanks,? Maintenance Guy said. He shuffled over to the vent in the hallway. Setting down the beat up red toolbox, the guy scratched his head while he looked at the vent.
?Mind if I turn off your air? It?ll just be for a few minutes,? he said.
Jessie told herself his eyes did not look darker. ?No problem. Go ahead.? Jessie looked down at the bowl she was holding. She?d been making tuna fish salad when weirdo walked in. She still needed to add some relish. Jessie set the bowl on the counter, walked to the fridge, opened it, and dug out the aging jar of dill relish. She closed the fridge and turned back toward the bowl. He was standing next to it, grinning.
Jessie realized the maintenance guys she?d seen around the complex wore green uniforms.
