Arranged or Spontaneous? Which Do You Prefer?

I spoke to someone a recently, who said that any story where the engagement is pre-arranged by the rivals is an immediate and hard turn off.

I have to say, prior to that conversation, I had never thought about that plot point being such a strong turn off.

Now everyone is entitled to their own preferences, but I wanted to hear your thoughts on this subject, to make sure I'm not missing a giant hinge in our community's preference.

Do you prefer pre-arranged or spontaneous, if in the confines of the story the author's choice makes sense.

I think, in general, I far prefer "spontaneous" though what that means can vary. For example, is it "spontaneous" if two women who have just met and taken an instant dislike to each other arrange to meet and work out their differences? Those kind of stories are ubiquitous, but I'd say they still qualify as "spontaneous" because of the nature of the initial meeting.

If I had to explain why I prefer spontaneous to arranged, I'm not entirely sure. I think that arranged has a sense of clinical organization to it; it seems a bit cold. By contrast, spontaneous has to be driven by passion, lust, mutual hate (or love), all sorts of emotions and feelings that suggest sexual desires (and other emotions) that are out of control. That is inherently just more interesting and engaging.

The caveat to all this is that a good writer can make either scenario work very well.

I like the "spontaneous" ones when both women are pushed into sexfighting due to the situation.

I also prefer the "spontaneous" story, where women meet and either feel challenged by the womanhood of the other woman OR simply is wildly attracted to the other woman. I've actually tried to combine both in my stories. I mean attracted AND challenged at the same time.

As JB57 states, later arrangements to fulfill the mutual desires is for me, just a a logical and maybe realistic way of unfolding the story.

That said, for me, it's not a turn off, to read about arranged fights, that could be boxing matches that ends up in a sexual encounter.

It depends how the writer has written the plot. There both types of stories on this board and both are equally good.
But personally I prefer Spontaneous story build up.

In general, i consider myself as one of the writers who prefer spontaneous.
However, i agree with JB57's comment. The difference between them is not always clear.

1) A meeting of two women to settle things between them by a fight is "arranged".
However, if this fight turns to a sexfight the outcome is spontaneous.
I am in !!
If it turns to a vicious catfight it is also spontaneous. I am not for it as i am into sexfights. My personal taste speaks here, it has not to do that it is spontaneous.

2) A meeting of two women for a sexfight is also "arranged".
However their feelings as their sexfight starts and then goes on may be spontaneous.

I mean... a writer may write a fight (of any kind :catfight, catfight then sexfight, sexfight) in a way that you like it or not.
Depends on the writers AND the specific reader with his personal taste.
Either the events are spontaneous or arranged.

Both can work, but my favorite tends to be spontaneous fights where the women end up losing control and keep taking the fight further and further until it turns into sexual brawl.

i'm ambivalent on this one. Either one can, for me, be quite sexy.

If two women are planning to meet for a sexfight, the writer can build on their growing anticipation. The tasty stew has time to simmer until all the flavors meld and the final result is a perfectly seasoned, hard fought, erotic battle.

But a spontaneous eruption of those heated emotions, those jealousies and antagonisms between two hot women can also work very well...just depends on the writer.

Damn! Now I've got a craving for stew!

Spontaneous usually allows for more variety and creativity, especially in the buildup, but either can be done well. Jon Grey's stories, especially the Best Friend's Sister series, are almost all arranged and yet they're better than 90-95% of the stuff that has been written in this genre. Even so, my favorite story of his is Halloween Titfight: Two Elviras and it's pretty damned spontaneous. Augur is the same way as it's mostly arranged yet Yasmine vs Fleur is my favorite so far (even though I wanted Yasmine to win convincingly).
