Here is something that I started to write.


Part 1

Salma had joined as a customer service operator at a major IT conglomerate based in Bangalore. She had just begun to gain experience and get accustomed to her workplace over the last few months until the pandemic had forced the company to switch to a work from her model. Salma had to relocate to her hometown in March 2020. It wasn't until October 2020 that the management decided to recall staff and despite the mirage of COVID restrictions and controls, Salma was excited to be able to return to Bangalore and resume official work at the sprawling campus.


Salma was a 32 year old smart and attractive woman, standing 5’7″ tall, slim, with an athletic build. Salma wore traditional as well as western outfits to work and looked stunning in almost anything. She had caramel brown skin, large brown eyes, a sweet smile and raven black hair. Her attractive looks and figure were in sharp contrast to her introverted nature. Her co-workers were attracted to her physical charms and longed to converse or interact with her but almost every attempt was fruitless. Other than official meetings and corporate gatherings, she was always by herself, rarely mingled with her co-workers and more often than not was seen engrossed in her phone. Other than that she strangely never parted with her silver clutch that she carried along with her at all times. During free slots instead of usually smoking (referred to as sutta breaks in India), Salma spent her time in solitude. All these aspects made it hard to find a woman as alluring as her in the campus, until one met Nehal.


If one were to Salma and Nehal stand side by side, it would be hard to tell them apart. They were strikingly similar in their physical and facial appearances, so much so that they even had the same hairstyle, a shoulder-length, fully braid ponytail. The only noticeable difference on closer scrutiny of their 2 pretty faces, would be that Salma adorned a studded nosepin while Nehal sported a beaded nose hoop.


Nehal was also new to the workplace, having joined the campus within the same week as Salma. Nehal was assigned to the logistical services while Salma worked in the Returns and Grievances Cell. Although their departments were placed in the same building block, their workspaces were located on different floors and the chances of either woman meeting the other was close to none. But co-workers and the habitual gossip-mongers can never be underestimated and in time they had heard about one another, sometimes through overheard conversations about 'another ravishing beauty', 'Salma's/ Nehal's twin sister' and sometimes because of mistaken identities. They rarely visited the cafeteria, but whenever they did, people often confused them to be the other woman, much to their surprise and resentment. In the 3 months that Nehal and Salma worked in the same office complex, they had never met or come in contact let alone a chance to confront one another. However, things were soon going to change for both of them, after the end of the hiatus from office post the first major Covid-19 outbreak.
