been contemplating this topic for a few
days now... and i guess i finally snapped...

what in the fuuuuck does 'bells on bobtail'
mean???

and what i'm asking in particular....

bobtailed what???

in my oh-so-limited brain... the only
bobtailed animal that springs to mind
is a farking cat.

so for the past few days, as singing this
line over and over... i get images of a
frikken bobtailed cat with the typical
sleigh bells on it... prancing through
snow in a happy hallmark moment.

but lets face it... they CAN'T mean that...
can they??

who in the fuck is gonna string some bells
on a bobtailed cat??

perhaps its another bobtailed animal?
the only other animal association are the
horse.... is it bobtailed?
i get the image... i'm just wondering
if its the horse they are referring to...

insights?

its the horse..they cut the horses tail short sometimes so it wont fly back into the person behind its face..so hence the bobtail..

I've heard of a bobtailed deer and a bobtailed rabbit.
Deer at Christmas I can understand, even a horse at Christmas, BUT a RABBIT?

Interesting question!

the horse thing makes better sense. i guess because
i had the bobtailed cat image in my head...
i couldn't possibly imagine any other animal...
so it stumped me.

i like horses with bobtails... that is... that
neat lookin effect where they brush the tail
under in a loop kinda thing....

er... kinda like this CLICK CLICK

Yes!..they braid the long ends and then braid them back into the top then tie it up..ive never done it..but it does look pretty cool..altho some people do actually cut the tail bone off short..then keep the tail hairs clipped short..i think thats cruel.. ..a horse needs a tail to swat flies off in the summer..its not like they can take a hoof and wave them away yanno..

Bobtail: A horse whose tail has been docked, or cut short, for decorative purposes or to keep mud off it. The term appears in Stephen Foster's "Camptown Races:: "...bet my money on the bobtail nag/Somebody bet on the bay."

i forgot that song!
