grasshopper

I learned Grasshoppers prefer merlot
on my Internet today. And you?
<font size="4" face="Tempus Sans ITC, Tahoma">jesus... where do people write this shit??

ok... i've posted yahoo ads before in the
past... and while it should be no secret,
allow me to refresh everyone's memory --

i love ads. when i was a teenager (and beyond)
i used to buy magazines by the stacks just
to go through them and find all the absurd
ads... and (sadly?) i'd find enjoyment
in trying to decipher ads. now i'll admit
that many ads are only 'skin-deep'... but
there are reasons why ads appear they way
they do.

now while this may be a duh statement,
many people just take ads for granted without
finding the fascination behind certain
aspects.

anyways... back to yahoo and grasshoppers...

lets assume for a minute this ad is true
but only from a skin-deep perspective.

we are to assume some 50/60+ guy is roaming
the internet reading about various things
all linked to one another....
(cruise > travel > wine > grasshoppers)
and that he was so fascinated by the grasshopper
info, that he's bragging about it.

first of all... who cares? would he prefer
to brag about the grasshoppers or booking
that cruise he was searching for?

another thing... this guy is making it out
as if learning that grasshoppers like wine
is the most productive (and valuable) thing
he's done all day... BUT TO TOP IT OFF...
smugly says it as if you can't beat that.

oh jeeez....

secondly, looking at the ad from a subliminal
perspective....
why is 'grasshoppers' and 'internet' capitalized?
why isn't (above anything) the word 'merlot'
capitalized??????????

meh... this post is long anyway... just
thought that instead of posting some yahoo
ad and a quip... i'd be a bit more technical.

back to your regularly scheduled board....

First of all, if you are looking to get DSL service, check out TCWorks.net (this goes for anyone, i believe shatzy and i have discusses ISP's before).

Second, I'm SO glad that someone else is as critical of advertisements as I am. I always knew that yahoo ads have given you fits because of their stupidity, but I didnt' realize that you were like that about all ads. I too am the same way. While watching TV with my wife, I will often comment about how stupid that commercial was, or how obvious it was that they were pinpointing one particular type of person and why.

anyways, i really wish you watched more TV because there are many commercials we could have great conversation about.

Finally, the ad is very gay....and it is a bit upsetting, that yahoo is trying to push the fact that learning about grasshoppers enjoying merlot could be the highlight of your day too, if you only sign up for our dsl service.

great post.

i find it just as interesting that you are
intrigued by ads as well, dj. too bad its
such a hassle that i don't have tv (or even
the time to actually find said commercials
on the internet - if available)... i'm always
interested in ads and what others think about
them.
