Short answer, yes its is!

I find it kind of funny that liberal organizations and media are controlling our free speech under the disguise of protecting 1st amendment rights.

Example: Kid walks into to school with a "Bush is a terrorist shirt", kid is tossed out of school for the day. ACLU jumps into to the kids defense saying that the school is censoring freedom of speech. Another kid, different school walks in with a "God is great" shirt, this kid too is tossed for the day. ACLU does nothing. Protecting free speech when it suits yourself I guess

I give plenty of bashing to the right side of the political sprectrum as well just that this whole political correctness thing is in need of urgent fixing. Not likely to happen but those who understand the problem should pass the word around.

Opinions?

i think you have a point to a degree. being PC
is a form a censorship in itself... i mean, thats
the whole point -- restating what you are
saying in a gentler, less offensive way.

however i'm not quite sure what the bush/god
tshirt has to do with being PC.

but if we wanna discuss the differences between
the bush and god shirt... i'm game.

in my opinion, the point of the aclu is to
support the underdog... in this case, the
bush tshirt is the underdog, since the message
written on the shirt is the minority of thought
whereas the god shirt is the majority of thought.

since the aclu supports the underdog... it has
no business trying to defend the god message
because, let's face it, if someone wanted to
throw a hissy over the god shirt being banned...
there are plenty of supporters to fight it.

I thought the ACLU was there to protect my civil liberties? not to only protect the 'underdog'. That is pretty lame. Your right that there are other organizations out there that will speak out to protect such things as religion however they are not hiding behind the term civil liberties. If the ACLU was called the 'left wingers club' (or whatever) then I would have no problem with them but they're not they are called the ACLU! Am I the only one who sees how dangerous that is?

The Bush/God t-shirts is a good example of PC. Religion is about as un PC as you can get these days. free speech is free speech is free speech to me. Probably well past my lifetime but one day people will be jailed for thinking such thoughts like religion.

let me rephrase....

it has been my understanding (though nothing
pressing on fact) that the aclu specialized in
minority movements.

while i clearly see the hypocrisy that you are
pointing out, i've never known the aclu to
defend more popular opinions when it coincided
against those of lesser favor.

my point about the shirts being pc... well....
i'm not really sure what you mean by it, at least
in regards to this topic.

while i agree personally that religion shouldn't
be considered pc... i don't see how the bush
tshirt is under the same blanket.

help me!

another ponderous question...

its prolly the reason i hide most of myself
away in some very dark, far away region of the
internet... away from this place.

funny things happen when you start to develop
some sort of associative relationship to people
you've never met... you begin to actually
understand them, care about their reactions to
the things you say/type... dignity and reputation
begin to push themselves on you....

no longer does it remain a place to vent...
but a venting that is read, digested, interpreted...
dare i say? judged...

we freely censor ourselves....
but yet, is it out of obligation? or habit?

i can't be helped...
