    it is sad to see that you will no longer post here, gravy, and i hope you will change your mind. dont be discouraged just because people give you a hard time. what do they matter? you shouldn't take it personally.

    as for my departure from things i learned in school, we can discuss that anytime. i am actually interested in discussing it with you.

    Dear GT,
    I asked you not to reply because I didn't want things to end up like this. But for a very strange reason you misunderstood me. I had no intention to hurt your feelings; and I have no intention to flatter or beg you in order to keep you here. You are a guest in here, and you have been treated with due respect. This respect will be shown to your choices, whatever these may be.
    We don't know each other GravyTrain. You used to go to a Christian school -- good for you! I live in a Christian country, where all students pray together in the schoolyard before getting in their classrooms. I live in a country where the average is one church for every five hundred people. I live in a country where Christmas has nothing to do with that fat-old-man-in-red hype of the Anglosaxon world. Religion is not a choice in Greece, it is an imperative. It is not a way of life, it is life itself. It is not a matter of the few, it is a matter for all. It is the force that has been keeping Greece alive for the last 2,000 years.
    Now, how come a Greek like me dares to present objectionable content in public? This is not the case, dear GravyTrain. The real issue here is that I open my mind in order to understand, while you close your eyes in order not to sin. I am a philosopher in the strict sense that I admit nothing and I always ask to know. I don't question My Lord's will and power, for His will is unfathomable. But I question people's habits and beliefs, for we miss no chance to declare our stupidity and ignorance.
    You God may forgive, but you may not. My God is merciful, and so am I. As far as I know, no thief and prostitute are deprived of His grace. The Pharisees act according to His Law, but they fail to see the spirit of this Law. They accuse everyone as a sinner, while they are who fail to see their own sins, the worst of all: arrogance and intolerance.
    This is not about art versus porn, dear GravyTrain. It is about examining a symbol versus idolizing this symbol. I am no less sad than you are for this idolization of sexuality; but I am not closing my eyes in order to avoid your deepest fear: condemnation.

    O Theos mazi sou.

    I find it rather amusing that there are still people out there who think like ek3 and GravyTrain do.

    Art = provocation. That's as pure and simple as it gets.

    speech is often barren;
    but silence also does not necessarily
    brood over a full nest.
    your still fowl,
    blinking at you without remark,
    may all the while be sitting
    on one addled egg;
    and when it takes to cackling
    will have nothing to announce
    but that addled delusion.

    Hello boys and girls! LoL - it's been awhile since I've posted on hostboard, dont know if any of you know me, but ah well. *shrugs* Here's my input: According to the dictionary - (www.dictionary.com) the word pornography in itself is, well...art. The defenition of porn is illegal activities designed to stimulate sexual desire. Now, the suffix -graphy has its own defenition..."A suffix denoting the art of writing or describing; also, the writing or description itself; a treatise;" -- so mesh the two together, and what you have is an illegal form of art that is designed to stimulate sexual desire. So I guess whether you want to call it art or pornography, it doesn't matter. How about we just stick to nudity! There, problem solved.
    However, to me - the real problem is whether or not it is morally okay to look at such images. Being a christian, and raised in church my whole life, I knew that it was a sin to watch pornography. But when I was 14 I did it anyways. I hopped on my parents PC, looked up the nude celebrities, and than deleted all traces of it. I eventually stopped for awhile, because I knew it was wrong. After awhile, I finally convinced myself that nudity, in the form of "art", was okay to view. So I hopped back on my parents PC, and looked up some artists that did that. But once again, after awhile, I convinced myself that it was wrong and stopped. Now 17, I've slipped, and looked up the occasional porn, but I guess it is to be expected. BUT BACK TO THE TOPIC! My point is, the defenition of the images isn't what matters, it's the personal beliefs of the person viewing them. So, since this is a public forum that discusses philosophy and not nudity, maybe the moderator should respect the beliefs of others and keep the pictures off. Just a suggestion.

    later peeps..
