Saw a man in the movies that didn't have a heart
How I wish I could give him mine
Then I wouldn't have to feel it breaking all apart
And this emptiness inside would suit me fine
It's times like these
I wish I were a tin man
You could hurt me all you wanted
And I'd never even know
I'd give anything just to be the tin man
And I wouldn't have a heart and I wouldn't need a soul

Wow, I was shopping around for an old topic to druge up, and this does seem to be it. BTW, nice um.. song? Poem? did you write it or did someone else?
Now, to breath some life into this.
Would you... any of you, given the chance, ditch your emotions? What about you intelegance. Would you go back and unbite the "apple"? If so, why? If not, what make it so worthwhile?

good questions, tin heart. (i am still attempting to figure out a way to 'shorten' your ID...lol)
to answer them bluntly:
given what i know now, if i had a choice to become a rock, i most certainly would.

My first thought on viewing this topic was to agree with Shat. But then I realized that rocks can't go sailing; they can't have really good songs stuck in their heads; they can't watch sunsets; they can't even appreciate their own perfection... all of which are things that bring me joy. (Well, OK, so the last one can bring a range of emotions from joy to extreme self-loathing... but I think you get the idea.)

Have you ever been a rock? You dont know what rocks feel and how they think.
In my opinion rocks (among many other things) operate on a much higher level of consciousness than mammals and other living things in the universe.
Now I must go and bathe my pet rock.

Awwwwwww shucks...
Hey, Z, I have a coupla questions...
If a given rock operates on a higher level of consciousness, what happens when that given rock is eroded and otherwise weathered? Do each of its new incarnations have the same consciousness, or are they all individuals? How'sa'bout if the rock is eroded into a soil, and plants then grow in the soil and use some of its constituents as nourishment- do the plants have the same consciousness?
I guess my questions boil down to this: You say rocks operate on a higher level of consciousness. Now, is it the rock itself that has the consciousness, or each individual atom? Do all atoms have the same consciousness? Is this consciousness the "Buddha" refered to in "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainence"?
Sheesh, I'd better shut up before I get even more confusing...

I don't think I'd lose my emotions, I don't believe they were the problem. Cavemen rarely died of heartbreak and depression...
As far as I know.
But I'm going to have an arrogant moment here (Please, try not to die of shock) and say I might be sliiiiiiiiiightly more aware then your average 16 year old. I blame that on my life, which has been a splice of Annie/Oliver Twist/Cinderella/And the non supernatural parts of Carry.
If I had a chance to go back and have a normal life, but I'd have to agree to have an average mindset, I think I'd do it. To have steady friends, a faith I never had to question, and a certain (if boring) future, I would.
That's what separates me from your average Grecian heroin. All the bad traits we have in common.
I was going to comment on the rock thing, but once again found myself in over my head. this leads me to believe giving up my intellect to be normal wouldn't be that much of a loss.

I take that back! Nothing on the "carry" scale, but I have had some... not quite naturel experiances in my life.
