    I'm in kinda a sour mood this morning, so my answer would be...

    I lean towards the latter, but take it a step further. Humans are the most inferior beings on this planet.

    Why, you ask? Well, because we cannot simply "be". Instead, we must create elaborate infrastructures and societal/economic heirarchies in order for our species to thrive, and in the process pave over everything in our way.

    I guess what I'm trying to say is that we are not great because we have created culture and society; rather, we are crap because we need culture and society.
