*Impiety* was what he was charged with.

As for Aristotle, he moved out because of an outbreak of anti-Macedonian feeling in Athens, after the death of Alexander. He was never charged with any crime.

If you were a philosopher king back in the days of old *socrates, plato, etc...* and were charged with the same crime as they *something about being against religion of the pepole or some such nonsense*... would you do as Socrates, and die for your belief, in your town?
Or do as the other.. *I think now it was Aristotle*... and flee, and look elsewhere for things of interest?

Please give any reasons backing your view upon what you would choose!

Actually...

He left Athens and the Lyceum the next year after being legally charged with not respecting the gods fo the state--one of the same charges that leveled Socrates. Rather than stand trial like the crusty old Sophos, Aristotle fled to the island of Euboea(his mothers birthplace), in his words, "lest Athens sin twice against Philosophy""

So he was actually charged, and THAT is why he left.
He had his choice, death, or to leave.

In the Routledge Encylopedia of Philosphy, they make NO mention of him ever being charged with anything.

Hence, I will look for further referances.

At the library, just looked up a bio on Aristotle; Past Masters Oxford university Press, Jonathan Barnes copyright 1982/96 compilation vol 1999

He speaks of the very same quotation that you have used, ??did NOT want the Athenians to commit a second crime against philosophy??, then mentions that the first crime had been that of the fate of Socrates, and that Aristotle FEARED that he might suffer Socrates?? fate, and that the fear had a political basis.

No charges are mentioned, as it appears that he was never formally charged.

If needed, I can easily look for further references.

So now I have a second reference that states that he <u>was</u> charged with ??impiety??, from the biography; Aristotle, founder of Scientific Philosophy, Benjamin Farrington, Praeger Pub. Copyright 1965 pub. 1969

As ??Supreme (dictatorial) Ruler of the Universe?? (that??s my sense of humor, if your going to accuse me of it, may as well act like it??..only in jest! Tee Hee!!!!) I force and require that A-L-L of you <font size=4>make up your minds for yourselves!!</font>
