I realize that most of you are true philosophers and, as such, are interested in math. I despise mathematical puzzles. To me, they have no natural value. I've always thought Logic was a contrived, or man-made science.
What I was always interested in was... does any of anything truly mean anything...?
One of my favorite naturalists, as I substitute "naturalist" for "philosopher", was/is Loren Eiseley.
Eiseley says...
"'A name is a prison, God is free', once observed the Greek poet Nikos Kazantzakis. He meant, I think, that valuable though language is to man, it is by very necessity limiting, and creates for man an invisible prison. Language implies boundaries. A word spoken creates a dog, a rabbit, a man. It fixes their nature before our eyes; henceforth their shapes are, in a sense, our own creation. They are no longer part of the unnamed shifting architecture of the universe..."
Next week... Bertrand Russell

And if there was ever to be a language? That was able to ebb and flow and evolve, changing meanings behind things, would such a hinderance as described then still exist?

Perhaps. I don't believe Eiseley was indicting language, only showing it for what it is...
Now, can we cut the shit, and talk about whether or not Carmichael fucked up by switching from Kawasaki to Honda??

lol...
nice evolution of the thread.
i also find it exceedingly amazing that
so many seemingly different people post
on GP and yet, have so much in common.
i suggest you go check out hanny's forum.
you'd be surprised.

I dunno. I'm a casual fan of Motocross and even I can tell you Carmichael will win the Supercross season. Villemane is a Frenchy and will fold.
I'm a fan of all the privateers like Heath Voss.
Shouldn't I be moderating General Philosophy since I seem to be the only poster here who has even heard of any philosophers?
pplavertia yer thoughts?.. or do you have more anime cow gifs to drop here... I name drop Rickey Carmichael and the dogs come running. I name drop Foucault and the GP collective's eyes glass over...

i will take these comments as merely pokes in jest.
p.s. -- if you wanna moderate this joint,
let me know... perhaps then you will see
why moderating a public forum on philosophy
is such a freakin joke.
