    Shark attacks Eastern Cape surfer

    May 25, 2005, 13:15

A surfer has been attacked by a shark near the mouth of the Kei River in the Eastern Cape. The 32-year-old man suffered injuries to his leg and buttock and he is in a stable condition.

Reports are that the victim was surfing with two other men at Whacky Point, a spot famous for its beach break. The victim was said to have been about 50m from shore when he was attacked. At this stage it is believed that he was attacked by a ragged tooth shark, a species better known for its fierce looks than aggression.

The victim was taken to the district surgeon at Kei Mouth for treatment and he has been stabilised.

How often do raggie attacks occur?

My friends have been trying to convince me to go see the raggie migration at Protea Banks for the past 5 years but I'm not comfortable enough to do it...
