i have heard of this show. it sounds horrible and malicious. at least with THE BACHELOR, there is the honest intention of finding a person to be with (even though the process is humiliating). with this one, it actually sets everyone up for a fall, the guy included. the catch is to see the woman's reaction to not having sqillions of dollars. and no matter how introverted and thoughtful this man is, he's still not thoughtful or introverted enough to see in what bad taste this show is and certainly not introverted enough to publicise it on national and quite possibly international television.

Joe Millionaire is a cool show. (so far anyway) It's on Monday at 9PM on Fox Television. It could be a classic.
Joe Millionaire seems portrayed at first as a country bumpkin hunk who, as it turns out, is also quite introspective and thoughtful.
The remaining 12 girls out of the original 20 are being put to the test.

Background on the show...
Joe Millionaire is purported to have inherited 50 million dollars and a French Castle. As it turns out, he makes 19,000 dollars a year, but the twenty girls who have been invited to the castle all believe he is worth 50 million and wants to get married.
They are half right, he makes 19,000 dollars a year and is interested in marriage. But Whats 49 million dollars and 981,000 dollars among future mates?
He takes the remaining 8 girls on dates of four at a time. In one poignant scene, one girl dominates the talking while the other three girls politely, and tersely, listen.
If the girls but in, they will appear catish, if they say nothing, they can only gain if the primma dona of the group misspeaks.

Your take is off, probably because I have not given enough info. He IS looking for Mrs Right. He will or has already fallen in love and when he must reveal the truth to the "winner", he HOPES the woman he has chosen will marry him even though he has no wealth.
The woman will decide, and he will honor the decision, even if she rejects him.

the show, when originally shot, was kept under
tight wraps in france. it was temporarily called
'the big choice'... and little information was
leaked.
the women knew they'd be on a show in which
the man was to choose one of them for a long-term
relationship -- they weren't informed of all the rest.
i also feel that the show is in bad form. the
women -- whom are being exactly what they are,
are being dejected while mr. smooth is being
promoted.
i've heard internet forum rumor that there is
a possibility of a larger twist....
that being that he really IS a millionaire...
lying to make $19k.... lying to be a millionaire.
how much rope does it take to hang oneself?

I mulled the possibility that even when he reveals that he is "Joe Schmoo" with no money, he could actually be a millionaire, thereby fooling the audience.
It's even been rumored on a Entertaiment Tonight, or some such show that he appearedf on. He was asked if his last name being Marriott, if he was related to the Marriott hotel chain.
You are right, that many of the girls leave in a devasted state, but the REMAINING girls chug-a-lug the euphoria of going to the next round.
Perhaps it's a draw.
