    2 Cor 5:5 Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

    God made us exactly the way we are for His purpose and this verse says that the Spirit is like a down-payment on what is still to come.
    The Spirit is not only a gift given to us to do God's work, it is also a promise from God in itself.
