2 Cor 11:14 ? "? Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light."
There's a story about a Christian saint imprisoned in the middle ages, who under torture and starvation would not renounce his faith. (I don't know his name or other details, but am repeating comments I have on tape from a respected Bible teacher (Walter Martin).)
One moonlit night a glorious shining apparition appeared in his cell, and said "I have seen your suffering and what you have endured for my sake. It is I, Jesus, worship me".
The man was about to fall down and worship when suddenly he was restrained. He looked at the apparition and said, "Show me the marks in your hands and your feet", and the apparition vanished. An imposter, obviously.
