Hi! This is my first time visiting this forum. I read jodi's story and it is so similiar to my experience. With my second child all my ultrasounds were normal(no previa),I was 2 weeks late, the doctors induced my labor with pitocin, then breaking my water. At 3 cmm i had the epidural. I pushed for three hours, but the baby was too big, so I had a c-section(my first son was born ******lly) during the surgery i was kind of in and out, but I started hearing the doctors say that the placenta wasn't coming out. they said it had grown into my uterine wall and they would have to cut it out. then I heard one of them say there was the possibility of a hysterectomy. luckily, I didn't need one and the doctors controlled the bleeding without a transfusion being done. I was told that this condition wouldn't affect my conceiving again and probably won't happen again. my husband and I have been trying for 3 years to have another baby and it's not happening. all the research i have done hasn't uncovered anything saying if placental accreta can lead to significant scar tissue if it has been surgically removed, and lead to secondary infertility, but now i'm not so sure. I'm so tired of this roller coaster i'm on every month-am i? am i not?- sometimes i wish i had had the hysterecotmy. knowing i can't have more children may be easier than what we are going through now. do you have any information that can help me?

I'm no expert - I only know what has happened to me so far. I had a c-section followed by hemorrhage, caused by placenta increta (grown into uterine wall). The latest my doctor has told me is that I should not have more children because the uterine wall is only a few millimeters at one point, due to the growth of the placenta. At this point, I need more information (perhaps a more special specialist?) before I accept it and move on. (Though I'm already researching adoption)

Frankly, I get the impression that few doctors know the first thing about secondary fertility after an accreta because they are very rare and usually end in hysterectomy.

Have you tried finding a specialist (fertility or possibly with special knowledge of placental disorders)? An MRI, properly read, or a sonahistogram, can tell you much more about scar tissue and its impact on your fertility.

    Jodi will have more suggestions...

    Take care.

zoesmom, thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about an MRI. I made an appointment this week with a different obgyn. I'll ask about some of the things you mentioned.

It's nice to know that we're not alone. for so long now i really thought we were. My best friend is pregnant with her second child and it has been hard for me to see her and her joy. Of course i don't show it around her-that wouldn't be fair, because it is not about me.

    thanks a whole lot!

    Jojo,

No, you are not alone. We are few and far between, but we are out there. You should not feel too discouraged - there likely are things that can be done to improve your fertility, like removing the scar tissue. Identifying the problem is the first step.

I'm sorry you can't share completely in your friend's joy of being pregnant but I understand. Hang in there!

Let us know how your appointment with the new doc goes.

    Jojo,

Hi and welcome! Sorry it took me so long...I have been out of town. What you need is a Sonahistogram done by someone who has experience with a condition known as Asherman's Syndrome. Not to say that you have it, but chances are that you do have scar tissue and this could be what is keeping you from getting pregnant again. See if you can hook up with an RE (reroductive endocrinologist) and make sure that person knows your history. I had one back in September and it showed significant scarring. Check out www.ashermans.org for more info.

    Keep us posted!!!

    Hi Jodi!

Thank you. I have looked into the fertility program at uconn medical center and they did reccomend meeting with an RE to discuss my history and to bring a copy of my file and surgical report. I have also taken down the name of the tests that you and zoesmom recommended and I plan to ask about them at my next appointment in a few weeks. thanks for being here, it really means alot. I will keep you all informed.
