no one's posted here for a while but i though i'd give this a shot, lol.

first off, i haven't been 'officially' diagnosed with an accreta. well i was but then learned that it was wrong. anyway here's my story.

Pg #1, uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery, 2002.

Pg #2, ended in m/c, baby died at 10w5d, D&C at 13w after waiting for natural miscarriage. Loss probably due to subchorionic hemorrhage.

PG #3, ended in m/c at 15w, baby died between 13w3d and 14w3d, had a D&C the day after we found out. Loss due to subchorionic hemorrhage.

Pg#4, very complicated. Had, yet another, subchorionic hemorrhage. resulted in lots of bleeding and 10 weeks of bed rest, from 8w to 18w. Baby was born healthy at 37w5d. Labor went fine, when 3rd stage came along most of the placenta wouldn't detach.

I had a u/s and 2 MRIs, they said it was an increta. OB decided to leave in-situ. The piece was 8x9cm.

I hemorrhaged at 4w PP and had another D&C. New OB (I moved from southern CA to central CA during the 4w) said it was just a bad retained placenta.

Oh and at 13w pg with my daughter I found out that I've got homozygous MTHFR and had Anticardiolipin Antibodies.

Pg# 5, my dd was 9 months old when I got pregnant again. Uncomplicated pregnancy, had soem bleeding from 4.5w to 10.5w, cause not found but most likely another SCH.

At 36w pg a u/s tech saw 'something' between the baby's butt and his placenta. She said I've got a heart shaped uterus.

Delivery came and I had another retained placenta, this time the whole thing was stuck.

New OB, I like variety , , tried manual extraction and a few drugs to help it contract. Ended up with another D&C.

Now he said no more babies.

I'm sort of confused as to whether I had accreta with either of them.

My dh had a vasectomy 2 months ago but it hasn't taken as of yet, he just had a + test last week. He's feeling that we should have another baby, coming from the man who has never wanted to ttc and was adamant about no 4th baby (or even a 3rd).

As of now we're not trying but we're not preventing either.

Anyway

Anyone have anything even remotely similar?

I'm not sure if it's just the deformity, as to why I had problems, or if it's an accreta thing or what. I do have an appt to talk with a doctor tomorrow.

Hi-
I too am new to this forum. Found it while googleing... just from reading you post you probably have some form of placenta accreta! And other medical issues as well that I am not completly educated about. But part of your story sounds familar to me.

My 1st pregnancy was fairly uneventful. Born at 40 weeks, ******l, 8#10oz... had a lot of pp bleeding and at the 6 week f/u appt they did an u/s and found "retained products".. had a d&c.. hemmorhaged post d&c.. and dr commented on the products being 'calcified' and having to actually scrape the piece from my uterus... she mentioned at the time about this 'rare condition called placenta accreta' that I may have but we won't know til future pregnancies... fast fwd to 2nd pregnancy.

At ~28 weeks I starting passing giant clots.. was hospitalized and it was determined I had placenta previa... ended up on bedrest in the hospital but the bleeding increased in frequency and amount... ended up hemmorhaging... dr was called in for emergency c-section and they again warned me about the possibility of accreta. it was under general anesthesia b/c they didn't know what they'd find when they opened me up. ended up being a few things- partial placenta previa, placental abruption, and accreta! I needed 2 units of blood but got "lucky" in that they were able to save my uterus... they really had to scrap away the placenta from the uterus and said I should not conceive children again b/c it would be worse the next time around. They said I got very lucky, not only from not 'bleeding out' but also the baby though born at 28.5 weeks, will be coming home from the NICU in the next week or so. and I got to keep my uterus...

I am very upset about the choice being taken away from me since I was really hoping to have more kids but I know I should be happy with the two beautiful boys I have.. in any case- sounds like you probably have or had placenta accreta... I know there's not much on the internet but try googling it..

Re: Worth a shot

I felt I needed to add to this discussion for anyone out there that may find help from this information.

With my first pregnancy, it was normal but I bled a lot with my delivery. My doctor did a manual extraction of my placenta and I received blood transfusions. Nothing was ever discussed with me why this happened or any other information about it.

My second pregnancy, I had preeclampsia but delivered at 37 weeks. I bled a lot after delivery of my daughter and had a D&C that night and again at 5 months PP. No blood needed but my OB/GYN recommended not having any more children. My husband and I wanted more kids and therefore got pregnant when our dd was 13 months old.

My third pregnancy started with bleeding at 5 weeks. My OB said I had venous lakes, subchorionic hemorrage and we watched with ultrasound frequently. The bleeding occurred off and on throughout the pregnancy. I had preeclampsia again starting at 25 weeks but delivered again at the end of 36 weeks. The delivery was talked about many many times with my OB and I knew things were going to be scary for a while. I delivered my beautiful girl without difficulties but the placenta would only detach half way. My OB was unable to get the placenta to detach. In the mean time, I requested time for my kids to see their new sister. By the time we were finished, I started getting very sick. My uterus was filling up with blood and I was rushed to the OR. The worst thing I could imagine at the time occured and I had a hysterectomy. I also received blood transfusions. My OB sent the placenta and uterus for pathology and I did have a placenta accreta.

I realize this potential diagnosis is scary for women but it's not as scary as not being available for your children. Listen to your doctors if they tell you not to get pregnant again. It's very serious and women can still die from this. I thank God every night that I was in the right hands the night I delivered my daughter. My OB had only performed 5 similar type surgeries but I thank God he was my doctor that night.

Thank you for letting me share my story with you, I hope it helps.

Re: Worth a shot

hi, just found this forum.. amazing.. can't believe there is a forum about there about acreta!

I had a huge bleed at 27 weeks but luckily it slowed down by the time I was in hospital but needed blood transfusion as lost 2 pints of blood. they found out I had placenta previa grade 4 and placenta acreta.. huge one all the way under and up my belly..

I'm 31 weeks now and discharged from hospital waiting for a big bleed again.. hopefully I can make it to 34 weeks when they have said they will delivery but it's hard to get to sleep (hence this post at midnight! waiting to bleed again and rush to hospital).

I'm 36 and have 2 other children.. both delivered by c-section and in between them I had a missed mc so needed a d&c to remove that.. this seems to be where my scar tissue came from and hence the problems now. I'm okay about the hysterectomy.. I'm old enough not to want more children and am very lucky to have 2 amazing children already so this was my last baby as pregnancy doesn't agree with my body! *understatement of the year*

I've done heaps of reading about what to expect.. they have also told me I will need another blood transfusion in theatre, will be in ICU for a few days, might have bladder or kidney damage etc.. i'm mentally ready for it I think.. still scared as all hell when I get taken the theater.. but will just suck it up and do what I have to.. will probably have a cry later I expect when it all hits me and I know baby is safe etc.. but I figure that's normal even if I'm okay with the hysterectormy.. it's still a big thing for a women to lose her womb even if she's done having babies isn't it?
