Tips for preventing blackmail on the internet.

Guys, hi! I recently had an unpleasant situation: on some forum I was added to a person who seemed normal, but later began to demand money, threatening to leak my personal photos. Although I don't have such photos, it was still creepy. Good thing I blocked and changed my passwords right away. Has anyone experienced something similar? What measures do you take to avoid becoming a victim of blackmail?

Hi! Yes, I was in a similar situation once too. It was a couple of years ago: I received a threatening message that my email had been hacked and a ransom was demanded. Good thing I found an article at https://bnonews.com/index.php/2024/12/how-to-avoid-becoming-a-victim-of-online-blackmail/, where they explained that most of such threats are scams. I changed all my passwords, made two-factor authentication, and everything calmed down. The main thing is not to panic or react to provocations, but rather to check the information right away.

Re: Tips for preventing blackmail on the internet.

Hi. I've never actually dealt with blackmail, but I've heard that it's become a serious problem. Honestly, I had no idea how people could extract such personal information. I think discussions like this are useful so that more people know how to protect themselves. Cybersecurity is now a necessity, not just an extra measure. To everyone in the thread, I wish you all coping and being more careful in the future!
