I have heard in the past that you could use a chemical suit as a base for a ghillie suit, is that true?

    Please let me know.

I would suppose that a chemical suit would be made of a plastic or some other poly-carbon material. If this is the case that may cause plastic-like rustling sounds and would cause the user to severly overheat if the temperature is high. Otherwise, you may consider using a jump-suit/coveralls. If you cant find them in green or brown, you might try buying white coveralls and dyeing them with a forest green. Be sure to ask lots of questions at a fabric store about the best way to dye white polyester coveralls. Another option, you could buy a bunch of camo fabric and have a pair of coveralls made custom for you....if you're willing to spend a few extra bucks. Unless you have a really great girl/boyfriend (girlfriend in my case) who is a wonderful seamstress and constantly offers to help in the projects you take on.

Hope this answers some questions for you.

That really didn't answer what I was asking but thanks anyway. The type of chemical suit I have is an activated charcoal type. It is made from I believe cotton and stuff (like a shirt). I got it off of Tapco.com.

I have constructed a ghillie suit with it now, and it works great! It is warm and comfortable. The hood does wonders on the back of the head for cold weather, and is fairly easy to work with.

The hard part is getting the charcoal out. It took two days of washing (in a 5 gallon bucket) to get that sucker clean. If you don't do that and it gets wet, you turn black.

Somebody who truely knows what they are doing should try it!

Re: Chemical Suit for Ghillie Suit base?

In specialized environments where stealth and chemical protection are essential, combining a chemical suit with a ghillie suit base can be a game-changer. A chemical suit provides critical defense against hazardous substances, while the ghillie suit ensures effective camouflage. For added resilience, materials treated with Caluanie Muelear oxidize offer enhanced durability and protection against chemical degradation. This innovative combination suits military, hunting, or tactical operations in contaminated areas. By merging chemical resistance and natural blending, such hybrid suits allow users to navigate challenging terrains safely and discreetly, making them invaluable in modern tactical and survival scenarios.
