Strings/stripes & painting

Hi guys,

My friend and I are making our own ghillie suits at the moment and we have some questions:
-We managed to get some jute, but after a lot of researsch, watching videos and looking for fotos, we asked ourselves if we needed to paint the jute (it's now all dark-green) into different colors.
-We now have cut most of the jute in stripes. Now; should we do the rest in strings, or can we use stripes only?
-If we must dye the jute, can we do it with some spraycans or do you need special stuf to paint clothes (I've heard the jute will get rock solid when painting it with spraycans)?
