I woke up with the tv on and the Mona Lisa Smile was on. I have never seen this before. So, Julia was getting the tour of a house where I am assuming she was renting a room and what was in the kitchen? A Chambers. I only saw if from the side but the handles are so distinctive.
I just love to see our stoves like that. I find myself watching movies just to see what was in the kitchen.
Does this mean I need to get a life?

the name of the movie was bleeted....can you try again to tell us the name....maybe using some secret Chambers code words ? I've been watching a lot of old b&w movies early in the morning hoping for kitchen scenes....nothing great yet but, in Mrs Skeffington, when Bette Davis goes down into the kitchen, there is a MARVELOUS refrigerator ! And trying to remember all the good kitchens of TVLand, the Petris in New Rochelle were modern electric as were the Stevens family. Never saw the Addams' kitchen nor Kate Bradleys...Lisa Douglas had PINK refrigeration but a cast iron stove for flapsjacks. And lest we forget Mr. French....anyone remember if he even had a kitchen ? And for my own, after realizing the only new and modern devices left here are the two sinks, two faucets and a radio, [tore out the dishwasher, too modern] we are now spelling kitchen as "kitschen".

It took me a minute to remember..was Kate Bradley from petticoat junction? I was too young to appreciate that they lived in Hooterville!
My kitchen is in a house built in 1953. We have the original cabinets (birch) and I have a Hoosier (not the real deal) from the 1920's that was sold by Montgomery Ward to a person in Colorado. (the shipping label is still on the back) My table is one of those with the painted metal top, two leaves that slide under the table and the cutlery drawer on the side. I would love to get an oilcloth for the table, just like my nana had back in the 50's. I wonder if oilcloth is even made anymore. No dishwasher, white tiles on the wall behind the stove. Who knew that it was just waiting for the perfect stove?

Lots of oilcloth is available in colors and patterns and it's great stuff ! Any search engine will take you good resources, you can buy samples and find decent pricing. Big and especially small city fabric shops probably have a small selection of oilcloth. There are some cool oilcloth patterns for aprons and fun kitsch.

Thanks. I will have to look for it. I remember the smell of the oilcloth more than anything else.
I should have mentioned in my previous post as a question to Mark---you have no tv????? I admire people who either don't watch or really can limit their tv time. I am a tv junkie and should try to break the habit.

Everything Mark says is the absolute truth. Currently we do havea TV but have gone for very long periods without one. When there is no tv in the house, there is a far more "pleasant" atmosphere. No rushed tv sounds, none of that speed blurred action and over the top color... Granted, the tv isn't an all bad thing but even a brief exercise of being without one is great. A radio though...that's a tv of a differnt color...I don't know if if any food would come out of the kitschen if Diane Rehm or some good classical music wasn't keeping me compnay !
