Why is it so gosh darn expensive? $25.50 for a 6" x 8" piece! This is unbelievable. What is so special about Mica?

Probably the main reason is the mica miner's union has a very strong hand at the bargaining table. Those mica miner's union bosses don't take any schist from management, that's for sure.

That 6x8 pice does a few stoves I believe. It is splitable AND cutable. Do a search - there were many references a few months ago - people were able to sell pices to one another on the Board.
This Board is so sleepy lately - I don't know where everyone is - there is usually so many more answers (and helpfull ones, at that) from the old timers and folks with experience.
You might even want to ask if anyone has a small piece of mica to sell.(also known as eisenglass).
