"my dog's last sunset"
the sun begins to set, casting shades of pink, orange, and purple ...
a great blue heron calls in the distance,
a flock of geese passes overhead
my dog's last sunset
hussy seems disinterested as she noses the ground,
she briefly inspects the hole which is to become her grave ...
the nearby stream rages along, swollen by the recent rain
and it's my dog's last sunset
the sun is almost gone now ...
a vapor trail divides the sky.
dark blues and grays take hold,
a chickadee sings nearby and i wonder why
it's my dog's last sunset
...
rest in peace, pretty girl

a friend says this...about the poem....
It's very good.
He has a good eye for observation.
Well, the serenity of nature is totally at odds with the coming death of the dog. You can feel his sadness and bewilderment.
