I went to [was required to; employee evaluation and all of that] a seminar given by a professional. She has her patients do this. She claims that it tells her a lot about them.

We have books. We have thousands of books. We are not all that organized. Every room has book shelves. There are books on tables, in piles in the corner and in various places. My office/computer room is full of shelves. I closed my eyes and picked a shelf [this excludes shelves containing technical stuff].

Here is what was on the shelf:

The Bastille, vol I & II Capt. and The Hon. , D. Bingham

The Second World War, vol 1 thru 6 , W. Churchill

    The Federalist [Madison and others]

Hemingway, A Life Without Consequences, James Mellow

The Nighmare Years 1930-1940, William L. Shirer

    Stalin, Edvard Radzinsky

    Candide, Voltaire

Sherlock Holmes, Vol I & II. Arthur Conan Doyle

    The Coming Plague, Laurie Garrett

Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck

The Lazarus Effect, Frank Herbert and Bill Ransom

    Disraeli, Stanley Wintraub

The History of God, Karen Armstrong

I?m not sure what it says about me; except my books aren?t organized by subject. Try it. Then you can evaluate yourself.

    Unk,

Personally, I was impressed by the Three Investigator offering. The Sponge Bob Squarepants coloring book also caught my eye. It really is a funny show. You HAVE to catch the Oblongs on Adult Swim. It may be the new find of the season.

Z, what did you think of the Lazarus Effect?

    JBT:

"Z, what did you think of the Lazarus Effect? "

No easy answer. When I first read it in the 80's, I enjoyed it. It can be read as a nice adventure story. Still, outside of the Old Man and the Sea, no other book has been so extensively analyzed. There are academic meetings dealing with the book. One wit called it a metaphor for everything. Don't think that our fundametalists brothers would like it; if they read and understood it. Or maybe, everyone is reading to much into it. Who knows.

    Best Wishes,,,,,

My shelves are long and crammed, so a listing of even one would be too much. Also, I keep them kinda organized, so that wouldn?t tell you a lot (except maybe about compulsive behavior?)

Anyway, how about the third book from the left of maybe a dozen of the more interesting shelves. There?s about forty, with only three or four given over to knick-knacks and junk.

    101 Garlic Recipes

Civil War Breech Loading Rifles, McAuley

    Song of Heyoehkah, Hyemeyohsts Storm

20th Century Decorative Arts, Cristie?s East

Indian Herbalogy of North America, Alma Hutchens

The Traditional Arts of Japan, H. Batterson Boger

Learned Pigs And Fireproof Women, Ricky Jay

The Bear Went Over The Mountain, Kotzwinkle

In Wilderness Is the Preservation of the World, Eliot Porter

    La Case Adobe, Wm Lumpkins

Cruising in Seraffyn, Lin and Larry Pardey

Seven Years of Highly Defective People, (Dilbert), Scott Adams

Well, that?s quite enough. I?m afraid the little library is heavy on reference and history books. Not all that interesting, but then neither am I. (just ask my wife)

Lon, I thought that maybe your poetic mind had conjured a joke for us with "Learned Pigs and Fireproof Women". So I checked Amazon and voila--

    [ame="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0374525706/qid=1029976463/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-0526383-4684001"]http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0374525706/qid=1029976463/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-0526383-4684001[/ame]

Sorry to have doubted. Must be a holdover mentality from WW West.

Pammy, I can't decide whose avatar I like best, your's or Tricia's. Sorry Helen, but your's comes off to me as too Ayn Randish.
