That will be around for a while, but it will be great to see disappear soon.

One who will unfortunately be around for a long time? Here u go:

LOS ANGELES - The judge said she'd get no breaks. The sheriff said she'd do her time. Even

Paris Hilton said she was ready to face her sentence.

But on Thursday, three days into a 23-day jail stint, Hilton was fitted with an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet and released to the comforts of her 2,700-square-foot Hollywood Hills home due to a mysterious and unspecified medical condition.

Did fame afford her special treatment? Neither Hilton's representatives nor Sheriff Lee Baca, who made the decision to spring the celebrity inmate, responded to requests for comment Thursday.

Hilton released a brief statement through her lawyer, thanking the sheriff's department and jail staff "for treating me fairly and professionally. I am going to serve the remaining 40 days of my sentence. I have learned a great deal from this ordeal and hope that others have learned from my mistakes."

Attorneys, meanwhile, differed on whether her treatment was unusual.

"She would have gotten out early if she was plain Jane," said Leonard Levine, who has handled numerous probation violation cases. He noted that overcrowding in the Los Angeles County jail system has led to thousands of nonviolent offenders serving only 10 percent of their sentences. "She did as much time as a normal person would have done."

But City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo denounced Baca's decision, saying his office was not properly advised and would have opposed it on legal grounds. Delgadillo asserted that only the judge ? who had specifically said Hilton could not do her time at home and disagreed with the early release ? retained jurisdiction over her case.

Steve Cron, a defense attorney who has represented celebrities, said Hilton was indeed treated differently: "I think the sheriff was just tired of the paparazzi and the increased security problems. ... I don't buy the reasons they gave."

The saga began last Sept. 7, when police spotted Hilton weaving down a Hollywood street in her Mercedes. She failed a sobriety test, pleaded no contest to reckless driving and was sentenced to 36 months' probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.

Two more driving arrests later, she had violated her probation and was sentenced to 45 days in jail. That was reduced to 23 days for "good behavior."

On Sunday night, after a surprise red-carpet appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, Hilton surrendered to authorities with little fanfare. She was sent to the separate "special needs" unit of the county's Lynwood lockup, which contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates. Hilton didn't have a cellmate.

Like other inmates in the special-needs area, Hilton took meals in her cell and was allowed outside for at least an hour each day to shower, watch TV in the day room, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone.

Then, shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday, Hilton was sent home to her four-bedroom, three-bath Spanish-style house on .14 acres above the Sunset Strip.

Presumably, she has the run of the place as long as she doesn't step outside the gate. And she can probably invite over celebrity pals like
    Britney Spears or Nicole Richie.

Authorities investigating the death of Anna Nicole Smith raided six locations Friday, including the offices and residences of two doctors, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said.

County prosecutors were aware of the raids in the Los Angeles area but were not involved in the operation, said spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons. She did not comment further; Attorney General Jerry Brown was expected to make an announcement on the case later Friday.

Ellyn Garafalo, a lawyer for Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, who prescribed methadone to Smith shortly before she died, confirmed the doctor's home and offices were among those raided but declined to comment further.

Several people close to the model have fallen under suspicion since her death, including her psychiatrist Dr. Khristine Eroshevich.

The Medical Board of California said in April it was investigating Eroshevich, who, according to documents, authorized all 11 prescription medications found in Smith's hotel room the day she died. Eroshevich had traveled with Smith to Florida.

Agents from the California Department of Justice answered the door at Eroshevich's offices Friday morning, but declined to say why they were there.

They said the doctor was not in and provided a phone number for the department's office of public information, which had no immediate comment.

A call to Eroshevich's attorney, Gary Lincenberg, was not immediately returned.

More than 600 pills, including 450 muscle relaxants, were missing from prescriptions that were no more than five weeks old, according to the documents obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request.

California's medical board also opened an inquiry to determine if there was any misconduct by Kapoor, who reportedly prescribed methadone to Smith.

Methadone is a popular narcotic painkiller that is used as part of drug addiction detoxification and maintenance programs.

Methadone overdoses can cause shallow breathing and dangerous changes in heartbeat.

A lawyer for Howard K. Stern, Smith's attorney and companion, has said she took the sleeping aid to cope with grief over the death of her son Daniel, 20, in the Bahamas. Smith gave birth to daughter Dannielynn in September 2006, a few days before the death of her son.

Stern initially claimed to be Dannielynn's father, but Smith's ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead eventually showed he was the father and is now raising the child.

The baby could inherit millions from the estate of Smith's late husband, Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II. A judge has appointed Birkhead guardian of the estate.

The attorney who represented Anna Nicole Smith's infant daughter in the rancorous dispute over the starlet's body is seeking nearly $200,000 for his work.

Richard Milstein served as the court-appointed guardian ad litem for Dannielynn Hope Marshall Birkhead. He has filed paperwork in state court in Broward County seeking $198,493.98 from a trust set up in Dannielynn's name.

Attorneys for the girl's father, Larry Birkhead, and Smith's longtime companion, Howard K. Stern, say Milstein's bill would exhaust nearly the entirety of an estimated $200,000 remaining in the trust, though the girl could eventually inherit millions more.

Besides acting as Dannielynn's representative in a Fort Lauderdale court, Milstein also helped coordinate funeral arrangements for Smith.

"This representation required the guardian ad litem to devote significantly all of his professional and personal time and attention to the interests of Dannielynn for a period in excess of two weeks," Milstein argued in his petition.

He did not return a phone call Monday seeking additional comment.

The matter is scheduled for a hearing Nov. 8, but attorneys for Birkhead, Stern and Smith's mother have already opposed.

"It is unconscionable for a trust established for a baby to be billed at a large firm hourly rate," wrote attorneys for Birkhead and Stern. They also said the Playboy model's mother, Virgie Arthur, should pay at least part of the bill, which the mother's attorney called ridiculous.

Anna Nicole Smith's daughter will inherit her late mother's estate.

A Los Angeles judge on Tuesday not only made 18-month-old Dannielynn Hope the sole heir, but also set up a trust in the girl's name.

Her father, Larry Birkhead, and Smith's executor, Howard K. Stern, will be co-trustees.

Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff granted a petition filed by Stern, who wanted to clarify Smith's intentions toward her daughter. Smith drafted a will in 2001 ? five years before the child was born ? that left her estate to her then only child, Daniel. However, it said the assets in Daniel's trust should be shared equally if she had future children.

Daniel was 20 when he died in 2006, three days after Dannielynn was born.

"We and Mr. Stern always believed that Anna Nicole never intended to disinherit her daughter," Stern's lawyer, Bruce S. Ross, said after the hearing. "I'm pleased to say this chapter in the saga is closed."

Dannielynn could inherit millions of dollars if the estate wins an ongoing court fight over a will by Smith's wealthy second husband, J. Howard Marshall, that left much of his fortune to the model. His relatives have been fighting the will for years.
