Me too. Been trying to put up a board at Web-Orphans: Looking for a place to stay - The Lounge Area but it's just not the same. And kinda dead after an initial influx. Ok I am hated...
Old site, dieing a slow death with usage dwindling every day. Used antiquated software that could no longer be developed. Site was slow and buggy. Tons of manual intervention daily to manage the site. Donations were zero for well over 2 years. Tried to use advertising for revenue and members complained. Would just have been as good as shutting it all down.
New site... HBCP duplicates the old site's abilities and then some plus 100x more features/options in customizing your forum. Dedicated developer on staff who is in the process of implementing things that could never be achieved before and had to tell members it could not be done. All that and usage is actually up and members have made considerable donations that have made a real impact on my ability to move forward. Not to mention the increased in speed...
I agree there were some downfalls but the positive is far out weighing the negative impact.
