By-Tor: The personal bank accounts of Democrat politicians and the very rich will
likely be the only thing to improve for the future. Other than that, I
don't expect to see anything improved. We'll likely end up turning tail
and running out on our responsibilities abroad, return to sticking our
heads in the sand with respect to the current and newer terrorist states;
as was done in the '90's and spend a lot of time talking about how
impossible it is to make anything good out of the "mess" made in the
previous 8 years. The economic pendulum will be due to start swinging back
the other way, so they'll break their arms patting themselves on the back
taking credit for an economic upturn without specifically saying what they
did to create the situation. Just as it was in the '90's; they'll do a lot
of talking about national heath care plans and social security lock boxes
(or other equally unpalatable subjects) while they waste any budget surplus
that is theorized to materialize.

Basically, the politicians will continue to do what they do best; sucking
the lifeblood out of the citizens of our country. The average American
will continue doing what we do best. Work hard each day (or look for work
if we are unfortunately unemployed) and roll our eyes/grumble with disdain
about the social leaches we continue to send to Washington.

Serena: With the lines between the Democratic and Republican agendas becoming more blurred, I'm really not sure. Part of me is glad that there is more of a balance of power, but I suspect that still so much is at the hands of lobbyists, and that it doesn't really matter who's in charge.

(Oh. No, wait. Senator Biden said he's voting to take the tax cuts away.)

INCREASED ALLOWABLE DEPOSITS INTO MEDICAL SPENDING ACCOUNTS.
(Oh. No, wait. Senator Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and others want to do away
with the spending accounts altogether which will also increase our taxes)


MORE WOMEN IS POWER POSITIONS!!!!
(No. Wait. Nancy Pelosi passed over some senior women to nominate
Impeached FORMER US District court judge Alcee Hastings. She was forced to
back off on that one. Thank God.)

AL QUAEDA BECOMES OUR FRIEND WHEN WE PULL OUT OF IRAQ!!!!
(No. Wait. We are a nation of infidels (if you aren't a muslim, you're an
infidel.) It's not open for debate.)

CAPS ON CONGRESSIONAL SALARIES, TERM LIMITS, FORFEITURE OF PENSION IS
CONGRESSMAN IS CONVICTED OF A CRIME.
(No. Wait. Congress just voted to uphold federal pensions unless the
congressperson is convicted of treason or espionage. Bribery, sexual
misconduct, and murder are ok. Just not treason.)

This question is rhetorical, right?

Chris: Well, already there's a new committee
investigating the best way to exit Iraq, something
that should have been formed years ago. Their exit
strategy (any strategy for that matter) may be vetoed,
especially in lieu of everything the president has
been communicating lately. Yet, if not vetoed and
successful, it may have a great impact on our ability
to save our people and resources and position
ourselves to better cope with greater threats.

Also, the Head Start mission may continue to grow,
rather than ending - something this administration has
said it would be working toward. My sister won the
Teacher of the Year award for the head start program
in Wisconsin, this year, and received a presidential
recognition. This is ironic, she told me last week,
because the president doesn't see her program as being
worthwhile - he considers it too costly as its
benefits are only seen, supposedly, by the very poor.
The current Democrat majority has, so far at least,
seen the value it brings to all of society and is
still funding her program.

Most of the changes the Democrat will try for are on
the way, hopefully not all heading toward veto. Let's
hope and pray that reason and humanity win out over
greed.

Beth: I really don't believe that much will happen. I personally believe both parties are part of the same diseased animal, and need to be put out of our misery.

CMC: Everything! and it's about time. I think of myself as an independent, but it's Democrat all the way until the insane path we've been on for the last 6 years is changed.

Usually I don't have any reaction to your questions, but you got one this time.

Ivory: I don't know if "expect" is the word I would use, but I really hope to see some regulations passed to help prevent global warming.

I would highly recommend that everyone watch AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH with Al Gore. It really helped me to get a better understanding of global warming. Even if you don't agree, it's always good to know where the other side of an issue is coming from.

Mr. Talent: I'm only 14, i have nooooo clue.

Martha: Nothing -- I don't care what party the politicians are...they will always fight with each other and try to block the others from accomplishing anything. The only thing I expect to change is that they will raise my taxes. That's what they all do best!

Dawn: I have very little knowledge or input in regards to politics.

Shi: I'm temporarily without power and water. Bad ice storm here put the key-wampus to us! Been w/o since last Thursday - so just checking email at work.... 1st day back since Wednesday last week... Hopefully we'll be back up so I can put my 2 cents in on this weeks questions... Cuz the 1st thing that comes to mind for my answer is NOTHING... DATKZ: What I would like to happen is instead of big businesses and bigwigs making millions and getting tax breaks etc that for once the average Joe would get a break. The average Joe works hard and earns what he gets paid but worries about trying to keep his job and put food on the table. We would not have as much poverty and homelessness in the United States if some of the wealth was shared a lot more fairly. I can dream can't I?

Wien88: Since Bush still has the veto, I expect nothing.

However, I HOPE that some social service programs who saw their funding cut
dramatically will get it restored. And that they cut off the free money
faucet (aka the tax refund) to the ultra rich. And can we please start
working on national health care?

Shi, my heart goes out to you and your neighbors. I hope they get life back to normal for you ASAP. How in the world is anybody supposed to survive w/o heat??? I'm quite surprised we've not been hearing of weather related deaths due to this unacceptably prolonged power outage. Do you have a generator at home? I wish there was something I could do to help.

The hot spot link advertisements are not my idea; I've seen them in other message boards on Hostboard as well. If there's a way to remove them, I'll try. They piss me off too.

Just so ya'll know - we finally got our power back on last night! 7 whole days with no power or water (because we have an electric pump for our well) We definately made some memories this past week that we can look back on in years to come. Having to cut trees up that were blocking the roads out here (we have 10 acres in the country) By the time we were able to get out, all the candles, batteriers, oil lamps, kerosene heaters, generators, lanterns, etc were gone! And trucks not able to get thru to replenish the stores (the stores that were open) Any thought of staying at a hotel was outta the questions... Most had no power, and ones that did were already booked or price gouging. We melted snow for water and packed our food in the snow... Where theres a will, theres a way. Even tho we did without for a week and the inconveniece it caused, the most tragic thing and what bears on our minds and saddens our hearts is the fact that last Friday (the day after the ice storm) someone shot and killed our 3 year old little 10lb Shih-Tzu and left him in the cold & ice to die all alone, scared, cold, lonely. So as bad as being without power for a week, and being cold, in the dark, and bored as hell... It still wasn't as bad a losing our little dog... "Wellington Parker Gray" I miss you Wellington

My heart goes out to you, Shi. It's bad enough roughing it in the frozen tundra of Illinois, but to lose a member of your family is the worst. Let's hope the worthless slime who did this meet with the same fate.
