After talking with Big Chad yesterday about what the retailers learned about From the Vault: Dragons, I decided to just go ahead and preorder one on ebay for $70, which was significantly less than other preorders, and less than some lots were selling for. Bret, can you let Big Chad know, so he doesn't ask for me to get any special treatment from the store? I don;t have his number.

Not even SCG has a place to preorder them, and they ship on Friday.
Buy it nows, for preorder, are at 100 or more for the most part, so I was happy to find one for 70.
Now, its possible that the distributer was wrong, SCG is slow, and the prices will drop, I admit that. However, consider this:
Thunder Dragon, a rare printed only in Starter, has a value of about 40-50 on its own, and this will be a black bordered version, and a foil one, and a limited print run. I suspect it may have a value in 20+ dollars alone. Add in a foil Kokusho, and you could be at 50 dollars or more with just those two cards. Now foil Form or Dragon Whelp or Dragonstorm don;t have much value I suspect, but a lot of the cards will. I suspect that the 15 cards, if sold singly, would make more than 70, as long as the release is as limited as Chad claims it will be.
That's some bull on Wizards part. When does the fan backlash start? Why set the MSRP at $35 if stores are just going to sell it for $100 before the damn thing is even out? I call shenanigans.
From what I've read, the number a store gets is based on the volume of product they've ordered from Wizards in the past. Some stores are getting 6+.
SCG put theirs up for preorder at 100 each. My 70 looks good by comparison.
That's some bull. And Starcity is completely speculating. No one knows the print run on there. Limited only implies a capped run. I'm hearing reports from stores in Europe that have anywhere from 10 - 30 sitting on the shelves (depending on the store).
Anyone who prices it is speculating, since the MSRP of 35 is laughable, once we knew Thunder Dragon was in it. Let's take a look at finished auctions.
Some for 70. One for 66. One for 80. This is those that ended today.
One for 65 yesterday. One for 60. A few in the 70s. One at 100.
Two days ago we have some for 85. One 90. One 67. One 100. One 80.
None are going for anything close to the 35 MSRP. Everyone is speculating right now, and sales are being made at speculated prices.
It's a new product, so we have to weigh it differntly.
I will say that the ebay auctions for individual cards are doing briskly, with Shiven around 20, and a bunch of cards, like Niv-Mizzet, in the 5 range, so I suspect this is a good deal.
I guess I'm lucky I got it for $35. I managed to get two of the last preorders from the store I got it from. (one for me, one for my friend.) Actually $45, because of $10 shipping.
