I just saw this Shards card on SCG, and I am promising, right now, that anyone who plays this card at our multiplayer table will get nut punched by me. Period.

So this is the kind of crap we get at super rare? New Ajani is not even half as good as the old.

So uh the nut kick... since Jason is immune to your pacifism and Ajani counters your pacifism, is Jason double-damned if he plays Ajani?

It'll get played ... it just won't ever get high emough to blast someone's lands. Starting at 3 loyalty, it can be destroyed by a lighning bolt in response to the first + ability! Once on the table, it'll be hated out WAY before then. Though it's kinda neat that the + ability can also lock an annoying LAND down. Take THAT Maze of Ith! (Or Kor Haven, Volrath's Stronghold, <insert annoying/broken land here>)

Actually, no ... no decks around it.

I don't think it'd ever get to land-crushing loyalty ... and I do find it to be a useful tool. It's about time there was a armageddon-type thingy in standard that you could actually PLAY. Even with that, there's too much burn in standard to worry about this anyways. I play at FNM sometimes and I'll play literally 1/2 my matches against some form of RDW, QuickNToast, etc. I can see this going into THEIR decks though!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No it won't. Putting a counter on is a cost, not an effect. It gets put on, and it has four counters, not three, so Bolt cannot kill it in response.

Ok then ... it'll knock it down to 1. You'll find SOMETHING to deal with it by the time it goes off. Thanks for the rules clarification tho!

so does the nut punch come from getting him into play or actually using his geddon?

the other two abilities are good on their own

Play is life, but with a huge ass target. Geddon is nut kicks. Notice the plural.

I just opened this guy up from a pack I bought randomly while grocery shopping... as far as his ultimate goes, I wouldn't use it in our multiplayer group unless it came down to 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 which sometimes the case may be. His other two abilities are nice though and don't seem game breaking, but I agree the other Ajani is way cooler and more fun in multiplayer.
