So I recently got into Mugen, a freeware 2d fighting game for PC that has been around for ages. You can create your own characters for the game, as well as stages, motifs, fonts and everything else. Over the years, a ton of websites have sprung up and bunches of characters have been made and are available for download.
Initially, people made characters from fighting games, so Tekken, Street Fighter Mortal Kombat and such saw their characters made and remade for Mugen.
As such, a lot of Marvel superheroes were made because they were in several fighting games.
Then from there it continued. People wanted superheroes to fight the superheroes already made. DC characters started appearing.
Today, there are tons of character out there from a variety of different sources. All are made by volunteers and differ radically in power level and look. Some look like they were done in MSPaint and others look very professional. Some have limited moves while others are radically different. Some are off kilter, like Spider Girl who is much larger than other characters.
Some video game characters just had their sprites moved to Mugen, which makes them pretty small compared to others.
Some are broken, like Quicksilver, who has no moves at all. So I had to pull Quicksilver. Some characters are very powerful and are referred to as God characters, such as Professor X. I kept him because its fun to try and kill him, but he is a problem.
Some characters have massive AI. Super Mario and Super Luigi have nasty AI but Luigi is a bit better and they have the same moves, so I removed Mario. Other tough AIs include Sandman, Dark Phoenix, Thor, Wonder Woman, Etrigan and Iceman. Some I was able to make easier, and not others.
Some characters are reskinned versions of others. For example, there is a She-Hulk out there that is a Wonder Woman sprite with green skin and hair and purple cloths and white lasso. She still has the WW bracelets, tiara, and lasso and has WW moves, so I removed her from my list. Other examples include Parasite on a Venom sprite and still looks like Venom when he moves, and Punisher on a Kung Fu Man's sprite, with Kung Fu moves instead of Punisher moves.
I don;t mind people using appropriate sprites. Polaris used Rogue's sprites with new colored hair and some new moves. That's fine by me. I just don;t like it when its inappropriate. Why not remove WW's bracelets, lasso and tiara from the sprite if you use it as the foundation of She-hulk? Why not give her some new moves?
If you are interested, I'd recommend downloading the following file - DC vs Marvel Mugen game. Not only does it contain the Mugen engine, but it also has a bunch of DC and Marvel characters and stages, plus motifs, backgrounds and more for the game. Every single character from that game is in mine, plus I added a bunch more. I use other motifs and such, but I used it for graphics.
Anyway, below will be the chars I have right now, both comics and non-comics ones. In case you are interested. Comes with some comments too.

Some characters I pulled include Radioactive Man, who looks like a giant gay MSPaint character, She-Hulk, Sentry, Parasite, Punisher, Quicksilver and Master Mold. Perhaps you'll like them.
