he awoke to the buzz and whirr of artificial life, beneath the false sunlight splintering from fluorescent over head lights. thin lips sutured down the middle and cut a flat line across his face. beneath skin, muscles ached and bones shrieked in pain with every movement he made. ethan skipped across the room with his gaze before settling on the call button for the nurse. he abandoned the idea of making a call for help and instead ripped the i.v. from his own arm and cords from their drape and dangle after killing the machines that monitored his life. his only meager possessions were kept at the corner of the room and snatched up a moment later. black slacks were slid on beneath the hospital gone, before the giant of a man moved to peer out his door. when the nurses because distracted with a hysterical woman, he slipped from his room in a junglecat prowl and cut down the steps. it was the first time had felt fresh air. a hand dragged down his, shading his eye and small smile. fingers dipped in her pocket and pulled out a small picture.

"i'm going to find you adaleda."
