The upper bracket is slotted so that you can swing the alternator toward the firewall to tighten the belt.

I believe the OE belt size is 785mm.

    hey jim,

im getting different results from people about b series alternator pulleys and brackets.

people are saying the USDM and JDM B-series alternator pulleys and top/bottom brackets are not interchangable. Ive searched this board and ive heard the opposite. Is this true?

more specifically, will the jdm b18c, b16a, b18a, or b17a1 pulleys and brackets fit my usdm b16a2?

PS: the top bracket is the slotted bracket that moves the alternator back and forth?

Some JDM, Euro, and Australian model alternators have a smaller diameter shaft than the USDM versions... which means you simply have to use the pulley that came with it. OE pulleys may not interchange between alternators. The good news is that ALL "B" series alternators fit ALL "B" series upper and lower bracketry... the only change may be the bolt/fastener type that must be used on the upper bracket. The cast brackets use a 8mm bolt with a "L" shaped tab welded to the manifold side. The stamped steel (gold colored) brackets use a threaded stud with a hex style shank in the middle. Both use a 8mm flange nut on the belt side to tighten things up.
