I'm having a bit of a weird problem that I'm wondering if you guys can help me out with.

When I start from a stop my car makes this weird whrrrr noise. If I go off the line really slowly I don't get it. This started a couple months ago and has progressively gotten worse. I took it to the dealership for a tune-up and they said it was coming from my supercharger.

What do you guys think? Maybe a worn bearing or something?

Thanks

Check under the nose of your SC by the pulley. If there is oil leaking from under it you have a bad seal or bearing and that could possibly cause it.. I might be wrong though.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yeah, that makes sense - they'll blame it on the one thing they don't have to service. I REALLY don't trust other people around my car.

I would first make sure it is really the supercharger. I'm always tearing my car apart and when I put it back together the funny noises that come up are usually drivetrain related.

If the problem was mine, I would go through this series of troubleshooting:

1. Try tightening belt (obviously).
2. Look for oil around nose bearing indicating a necessary rebuild.
3. Check the idler pully bearings. If the pullies themselves are still good, you can buy just the bearings from a bearing manufacturer and save yourself some of the $70 that jackson racing charges.
4. Make sure the belt isn't rubbing your lower timing cover.

Other than that, nothing else I can think of would possible make noise.

Just for reference...

The new style plastic JRSC idler pulleys have the bearings CAST IN. You cannot service them. The old style aluminum idler pulleys had a serviceable bearing pair held in place by a snap-ring. You must identify which type you have first before you order the necessary parts to fix them.

Oh geez, really? Maybe I shouldn't have sold my metal pullies

I sold them and bought the plastic ones to reduce mass.
