    i have a 68 gmc half ton 6 lug im having problems trying to locate the rear, the book says the front and rear are the same, but on mine i have leaf springs and they are bigger drums they pop out a little were the lug nuts go, any of you aware of this.

    You could have a later model rearend in your truck, Is it a 10 bolt or 12 bolt. Take a good look at the rear drums, and go to an auto parts store and check out the drums for 60-70 chevy trucks, 71-72 4x4, 73-87 4x4, 88-98 3/4 ton lightweights (6 lug) and 4x4. If that dosent work try to have someone local identify the rearend and you can get a drum for it.

    yeah, later drums have fins whereas the older ones are smooth no cooling fins

    backing plates differ in offset, but shafts are all same length after 1970, 6 lug pattern stayed same through '87 10 and 12 bolt both

    keep in mind that there are two sizes of drums after 67-72 years, heavier optional 2 3/4" wide under some 73-up, and also still the std 2" wide brakes like under all the 67-72
