I've done it on many VWs , but never a Honda (yet). If the boot is torn, you may have to disassemble the joint to get the new boot on. It's then often a smart thing to just put a new joint on if it has a lot of miles on it. We used to swap both joints (at the VW shop) once we had it apart as the $$$ wasn't much different for the customer (no extra labor). Note: CV joints can be like a rubics cude to get apart and reassemble sometimes. You can also just get a rebuilt drive shaft.

Well you can try to repack the joint with grease as long as it has not started clicking yet. If the joint is clicking you need to replace the axle. Look for a tear on the boot and if there is one replace the boot and pack it with grease.
