I usually open it up, and read the characters and story sections of the instruction manual on the way home, then I pop da sucka in the console ;p

First thing I do when I get a new game is to open it. Then I take a quick look at the manual if it's a non-RPG game, or read it entirely except for the characters descriptions and other possibly spoiling stuff if it's an RPG. Then I run the game and enter options (if available) to set everything up to my taste.

If I don't begin playing the game right off, I sometimes have difficulty memorizing the controls in the instruction booklet; especially so with fighting games and such that require fast reaction rates. So I play for a short while to begin with, reset, and then I consult the instructional manual.

Looks through the weapons if it is a shooter or if the game has weapons. Then I put the game in but I don't turn on the TV I just stare blankly at it. Just kidding about the last part. But after reading the manual I go to playing.

I start playing the game right off. I read manuals when I dont have anything else to do, or in the car.
