I doubt it. Seriously, especially for frogs etc. And what's with "euthanizing"? That's a modern pound euphemism for murdering animals because you don't want to spend $4 a day on taking care of them. Pounds should never kill ? euthanasia is for when they are suffering from illness, and all life has remaining for them is suffering.

Well, actually, the world is wonderful, it's humanity what sucks. That's one of the reasons why I defend animals so much ? they have done so little, yet received so much, from their more intelligent, yet more stupid and brutal big brothers.

Most people don't want animals to be killed but not all of can live. It's unrealistic for animal shelters/pounds to keep every animal alive. New ones are brought in while few are adopted. If I got a dog I'd probably get one at the pet store since they're still young. Meh as for a cat I'd get it at Petsmart, their cats are from shelters anyways.

You can still find young dogs in pounds, and pounds wouldn't need to kill animals if they had the proper budget, as it's already being tested in some cities.

The most effective system to reduce abandoned animals is the mandatory installation of a microchip that serves as the animal's ID. If you want to have a dog or a cat in Madrid, you have to register him/her (otherwise it'd be illegal), by which he/she gets a microchip installed. All abandoned animals are checked for their IDs, and if the owner hadn't filled a missing pet form, he/she will be fined (sadly not jailed, but should get so). This way people thinks twice before abandoning a registered animal, and there are means to ensure all domestic cats and dogs are registered. Of course the harsher the punishments for animal cruelty and abandonment, the better, 2 years of jail would be fine to dissuade potential abandoners.

Pounds should also focus on dogs since cats can survive in the streets (there's always somebody who feds them, I currently feed 4 cats), and there are private pounds that help with taking care of abandoned animals. My family helps two of them whose policy is to never kill; when they are full, they wait until one dies of old age, or they have enough funds to expand.

That's exactly what I want: people who don't want to get an animal because they may have to abandon him/her in 1-2 years better never get one. Only people willing to take care of him/her for life should.
