Seems simple. Tribe has a chance to sign a premier hitter for a discount. If this chance came along next year it would be a no brainer. Surely we shouldn't let him walk just because he came along a year too early.
He would probably be amenable to a lower salary in 2002 if we built in some raises after that so let's do it. Did you see Moorad's comparison between Juan and Giambi over 4 seasons ? Stats almost identical, Juan only 1 year older !
Finley, Nagy, Cordero, Fryman will open up all the salary room we need in 2003. And Juan will boost attendance and merchandising revenues anyway.

I agree 100 percent. Juan could be affordable with a little creative trading. Without him revenues will slip away. I am still upset that they let Marty walk. He wasn't the best but certainly alot better than Wil.

And Juan likes playing in Cleveland, said we would be elegible for a "Hometown" Discount", and he has friends on the team in Robbie and Wil Cordero.
