I think if Vic is an offensive force who doesn't hit a lot homers, he's going to be on the basepaths an awful lot.

I just don't think it makes sense to have a non-power hitting catcher on the basepaths all the time.

How did Vic hurt himself this year, while on the basepaths. Martinez is a rarity, A non-power hitting catcher who could hit .330 in the majors. If he gets a decent amount of walks, he'll have an OBP well over .400

Over the course of a season, Vic could get on base between 150 to 200 times more than Josh Bard. Throw in lots of doubles, leads off of first and second after every pitch, perhaps some hit and run, and this guy is a candidate for the injury list.

Heck, it's already started, Vic injured himself this year while on the Basepaths. All of the crouching a catcher does develops a certain set of muscles which just happen to be an anathma to running the bases.

If Casey Blake could play second, and Vic Martinez played third, we could have a very good offensive infield next year.

A third baseman hitting .330, a second baseman putting up the numbers Blake has put up this year, A steadily improving Hafner.

We've just improved the offense without signing anybody or trading anybody.
