the Indians have several young starting pitchers who don't possess a true 95 mph fastball. Having Maddux around might be a benefit all the way around.

His ERA is currently 3.90, and he could be paid with the money that was saved by trading CC.

I think it's a no brainer. This team, after beating Tampa Bay four straight, may have just eeked their way back into the wild card race as they only trail the Yankees by 8.5 games heading into the All Star Break.

Probably won't take much to get him but I read in Sproting News Maddux loves the So. Cal area and he'll probably end up taking his lumps the rest of this year with the Padres.

Article also said he wouldn't go to the AL and if he were to agree to do so, again, it would be the Angels.

Might be easy for the Padres to hang on to him, then let him walk as a free agent. If he signs w/some other team, they would get compensated a draft pick.

I'd consider trading them Barfield back, they might really like that.

<font size="3" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">He did, and is now a free agent who intends to retire. But you never know.

If he does hang it up, a 355-227 record, 3,371 Ks and a 3.16 ERA MIGHT be enough to warrant Cooperstown.

We'll see if the Indians can convince him to play in 2009.

I believe Maddux hung 'em up the other day. Some West Coast team should offer him the Pitching Coach position as that's where he wants to be.
