    Question

I have submitted a question about EWS 64 compatibility with WinXP Pro:

    Original Message:
In my PC ( Asus P2B-F, Celeron 800 with Asus slot adapter, 512 Mb RAM,
    Adaptec 29160 Ultra 160 SCSI Adapter, Fujitsu MAN3184MP 18,2 GB,Matrox G200
AGP, Terratec EWS 64XL and Winbon 6992 ISDN) my EWS 64 XL works VERY WELL
    under Windows XP.
WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE of configuration. Plug and Play works correctly.
I use win2000 drivers and applications. With Cubase there are Steinberg's
ASIO drivers, perhaps even better than original Terratec ASIO (not working).
So: why Terratec says that EWS 64 is not supported by Win XP? EWS 64 works
under XP in the same way of Win 2000 with the same drivers.
    Regardless

Answer by Stacey Curtis (Terratec support)

    Hello,
Well, I can only hope it runs stable for you and isnt slowing the whole system down.

The Cubase ASIO driver is an MME driver - NOT real ASIO - this is not a suitable driver for professional audio production, sorry. Alone for this reason there is no use for the EWS 64 under XP - unless you like having a really expensive "normal" soundcard ;-) But I am glad to hear you got it running!

    Mfg/best regards,

    So:
1)aren't Cubase ASIO-MME drivers professional? I don't think that Steinberg produces Audio Programs for home consumer.
2)For professional use they suggest in the FAQ to use Win98 SE and Terratec ASIO drivers. But Win98 is a HOME OS, not a professional (with all known stability troubles). Terracrap? I hope no!I hope new Terratec ASIO drivers but I can see them only in 4 years?
3)I'd like to change to a professional 24/96 audio card with a reasonable cost (EWX 24/96 or DMX-6fire 24/96).They are supported by WinXP and ASIO 2.0 BUT Terratec ASIO don't work under WinXP. Strange, isn't it? Another Terracrap?
So why Terratec doesn't produce new ASIO? It could be THE RIGHT an DEFINITIVE SOLUTION?

    BAHHHH!

i'm using Win98 (first edition, with all updates) with an ews64XL for 3-4 years now),
without any problems, but you have to keep your system clean...., the asio from terratec work fine i think under cubase (v3.755, and v5 now), the latencies are better than with the steinberg asio drivers!

    at least on my system!?

    greetings

Under win98 SE with Terratec ASIO I can obtain a latence of 12 millisec.
Under WinXP with Cubase ASIO for EWS64 I can obtain 17 millisec and more stability.
I think that second solution for is better.
