Please respond to this message giving tips on how to pressure the EWS64 card to it's upper limits. If you have done special driver settings, windows 98 settings and other sequencer specific settings.
LETS GIVE THE EWS64 A FINAL CHANCE!!!

Hi francki, thanks for your interest in this question. Yes, I have disabled the CODEC. I'm not sure if I have to run the codec power down as well. But nevertheless, I have a clean good sound on my EWS,no crackling or noise whatsoever.
My major concern the last months has been to tweek windows settings. I have been through all possible computer/windows settings. But the major improvements seems to come from the changes I made to my system after reading the "Optimising Windows 95 or 98 for audio production" at the MUSIC SOLUTION website.
Before I realized what could be done to my system in terms of speeding up HD recording, I was getting a maxium of 15 audio trax or so on my PII-300(64MB)(IBM DESKSTAR 5000r/m).
But the wonderful is that after beginning to optimising the computer I now can do upto 30 audio tracks!!!

I beleive one of the biggest performance gains was to activate DMA for the disk drives in Windows.

    best regards
    /bjorn

Did you try to disable the codec?
If the codec is disable, Did you try the program EWSPOWERDOWN ?
On my system,it has a very good influence:
    All crackling noise..disappeared
