Hello Altec users!
Now, Iam happy to find 2 original
A7 enclosures.They have 1209-8A crossovers
and JBL 2226H woofers and JBL 2426H horn drivers with 511B horns.
I will replace them step by step by Altec
speakers, and play around with it.
My question is, where I can find a link with the specs of 1209-8A, what is the desired
impedance and what is the crossover frequency?
And, can I use it in a A7 with which Altec
speakers? see :http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1 for pictures.
Best regards from Armin, Germany

Thank you very much for the information!
Yesterday I tested the speakers in my living room.
It sounds better then expected with the JBL drivers. The bass is deep, fat, and dynamic,
with a solid state amp. Today, I want to try a
SE tube amp.
And I was suprised, that phono sounds better then
CD with this speakers, it sounds more realistic.
I thought, this speakers are perfectly designed
to play Johnny Guitar Watson, when I played the
record from him.auh, auh, auh.
Greetings, Armin

Update
As expected, the JBL woofer 2226H does not sound
good with a tiny tube amp. This speaker requires more power. No wonder, the max. power capacity is 600W.
The JBL horn driver is not so bad at all, it has a titanium diaphragm, and the sound is o.k..
Now, I can use a big transistor amp for the woofer only, or I can swap it with a 416 16Z,
and try tube amplification.
Greetings , Armin

Hello Armin,
if you leave the JBL 2226H in your cabinet, take a look at the vent port. It may be too large for the JBL.
If you want, i can try to simulate this combination.

Hello Wolf,
yes, this is true, the 2226H woofer is in a JBL 3678 cinema box, it has only 2 small round bassreflex tube-ports.
If you can help me to calculate the ports
for a A7 enclosure this would be nice.
I have tubes with a diameter of 10cm
available. Then I need the amount and the lenghts.
This tubes I can insert in a panel which will
close the big rectangular port.
I have also a old programm " boxcalc" which can simulate the bassreflex enclosure.
But, I have no Thiele-Small parameters of the 2226H. And I do not know the volume of the A7.
Is it possible for you to send me this data to my
private email : [email protected]
Thanks and greetings from Germany
Armin
