As fate would have it these ratty 604's only appear when my buying power is directly on par with my ability to fly and read minds.

Yah- if I had cash I would just grab things like this when they went cheap- to form a sort of "bank".
There's always somebody looking for a single. Or you could eventually match up pairs.
I'd like to start an Altec rescue operation.
But it would violate the terms of the OG-Redhead treaty, which has prevented nuclear confrontations to this point.
She's getting some animals- I may be able to leverage that into an excuse to put up another barn...

I assembled a pair by buying ratty units on e-bay
I have a total of 100 bucks plus the cost of a GPA rebuild into a pair of Cs with B horns. Both of the Cs I bought had good original diaphragms and crossovers. Once paired up they brought more than I paid for the speakers.
Lots of risk involved though, if you want them cheap you need to buy them from people who don?t know what they are doing. If I had it to do over again I would send the packing to the seller with instructions. People who normally sell trinkets don?t know how to pack these things

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Amen Marty!
In lieu of double shipping the packing, I offer instructions and a $25 bonus if they're followed. Worked 100% so far.
As far as starting a home for unwed gear...another caution. My investment in the Hammonds/Leslies I saved from the parts mill grows by $480/yr in storage costs. It has to be more a labor of love than a portfolio...
