    Question

Hey there, newbie here, please to meet you all. I own a pair of ALtec Lansing model 85 Mini monitor 2 way spaekers speakers. I could not find any info. on the Altec site. They have a 6&1/2 inch woofer, and a small plastic tweeter. On the back is a code 34147, and it says 100 watts max and also made in USA. Can anybody tell me anything about these speakers? I have not been able to listen to them as of yet. Thanks

My guess is these were made by Altec Lansing Technologies, which is actually Sparkomatic. They're not good in the customer support department for their speakers...

You can do a search on "Sparkomatic" of this Board and see what I am talking about.

    Sorry.

    Hi,

I'm not sure but I think your referring to the M55.
Altec made some all weather small plastic enclosure in early 1990's.

    Yup

I suspect 85 is the year?

Anyway, Barkomatic. And "assembled" in USA.

FWIW there are no "late 80's to early 90" Altecs except pro gear. All home stuff is Barkomatic.

Re: ALtec Lansing 85 speakers ?

The model 85 was assembled by Altec Lansing Technologies (Milford, PA). The M55 was a cousin and also assembled in Milford. Altec Lansing Oklahoma bought the M55 from Milford and sold it to contractors for a short period. It sounded pretty good, was absolutely water-proof and filled a need as outdoor fill speakers. BTW: Sparkomatic signed the deal with Altec Lansing in 1988. Anything labeled Altec before will be the original stuff.

Re: ALtec Lansing 85 speakers ?

    According to Barcomatic:

1986: Altec Lansing Consumer Products established in Milford, Pennsylvania to design, engineer and introduce completely new line of home and car high fidelity loudspeakers.
I thought Barco just leased the name...did they actually buy a division? That would contradict what I always understood
