Why would someone pay this kind of money for an unknown when they can get the exact same thing from GPA for less money?

Just goes to show that some folks absolutely WON'T call for pricing.
Another lot just went well over $100, 1-16" frame gasket set, 1-4" vented DC, and 2-515 coils of unspecified Z. Barely under the price of 2 complete kits.
I wonder if any psycologists have studied the eBay mentality? Their "Shop Victoriously" campaign describes the trend well. a friend's 24 yr old daughter told me how wound up she gets in bidding frenzy...she cried when she got outbid on stuff she didn't even really want. Hubby had to pull her priveledges, and now she sees her past with shame and regret. Very much like a cokehead that got too close to the edge.
I enjoy the Barrett-Jackson car auctions. Some of that stuff is one of a kind. But I have been to other auctions where the bid price exceeds the commercial price for just ordinary stuff. Beats me.

when I see something I want I bid what I'm willing to pay and that's it, no rebidding.
Recently there were a couple of small 1950ish RCA speakers up, they were worth $125 to me and that's what I bid. They sold for over $300, probably to some manpurse carrying 20-something with a careful beard and an oriental tatoo.
On the other hand I just got a couple of Emilar bowties for only $50 and I'd bid $125.
