This one was my first vinyl LP.. And is a Classic !
Great post, Tom!
That '76 show from San Francisco is a gem. Apparently whoever filmed this got audio straight from the FOH board. It's full of great examples of how talented these kids were. I love Tommy Shaw's slide solo in "22 years", and DDY's piano work on Lady is amazing (especially singing while doing it). JY's strat sounds killer...just a super clean sound straight to his amp (maybe with a MXR distortion+ in there?). Great video.

I've taken a bit of "razzing" over the years for being a Styx fan. But, when i play my favorite Styx for these people who would mock me, they've never heard it before, and really have no clue about early Styx. As a budding impressionable teen, i was quite fond of the Man of Miracles, and Serpent is Rising albums.
The title tracks:
Love that modded Hammond growl!
Not all vegetables make good leaders.
...when they were "good." lol. My 33 yr old son is really into Styx. He and his woman have seen them 3 or 4 times in the past few years, and looks forward to seeing them whenever they tour. I think I saw them once in the early/mid 70s. I liked their music before all went top 40, like so many bands then.
Awesome ! I had read that somewhere about him being drunk.. Yup He was drunk when he started singing it for the band and it came out "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vidda" Baby... And the rest is history as they say..
Nothing wrong with Styx. I have a few of their vinyls around here somewhere..
